FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. What makes First Christian Church different than other churches I have attended?

From the moment you enter the front door and see the "Vineyard" coffee shop and are greeted and welcomed by several people, you will know this is a unique large, but small family church. The casual, warm and meaningful worship services have music to fit just about anyone's taste. Our Preaching minister's down-to-earth Bible teaching is practical and relevant to everyday life. The array of Teen and Children's worship services, Bible studies, classes and activities accents our care for young people at First Christian.

  1. Is this really a Christian church . . . what does that mean?

Our message is that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God." We require no other creed than this one. He alone is Lord and Savior. The church belongs to Him. We have no authority to change the teachings, rewrite the rules, offer altered membership requirements or usurp His authority. As much as possible, we are trying to imitate the teachings found in the New Testament as far as who, how and what Jesus' church is supposed to be today. That is why our baptism is by immersion, our Communion is every Lord's Day, our leaders are called Elders, our preaching is about Christ, and our prayers are in Christ's name. Even our church name is an attempt to imitate the earliest disciples who were called Christians first at Antioch (Acts 11:26). We do not claim to be ". . . the only Christians, but are attempting to be Christians only."”

  1. What should I wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Many people wear casual clothes. During the summer, many wear shorts. If you would like to wear a suit and tie, that's ok too!

  1. What can I expect when I walk in the door?

You can expect a friendly greeting from someone opening the door for you. A "People Helper" at the "Information Center" will assist you in finding the nursery, children's classrooms, our teen worship services or the adult worship service. People will be mingling, drinking coffee in the foyer "Vineyard" while others are finding a seat and/or a friend on the comfortable chairs in the adult "multi-purpose" worship center.

  1. What worship “style” should I expect at First Christian?

In our attempt to be relevant and at the same time remain reverent in our worship services, you can expect a variety of music styles. We attempt to lead our worship service in a style of music that best reflects the make-up of our family and motivate a spirit of excited and joy-filled worship. This will include some of the "traditional" hymns led in a more contemporary, inspiring manner, as well as the more "contemporary" choruses. All services are led by a worship team of singers accompanied by a worship band.

  1. What happens during a typical worship service?

Most services open with some meaningful worship time in singing followed by some words of welcome, introduction, announcements and prayer. After a short time of additional worship singing, someone directs our thoughts to the cross of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sins. All Christians present are then invited to partake in the "Lord's Supper" (communion, "eucharist") by eating a small cracker and small cup of juice as symbolic reminders of Jesus body and blood shed on the cross for us. A special musical solo or ensemble may follow and or a short dramatic skit to lead into the teaching message one of our ministerial staff members will present. A closing time of commitment and encouragement for the week follows as all are dismissed to serve in our real mission field where we live and work.

  1. Will I be put on the “spot” during any of the services?

Definitely not. We will not embarrass you by introducing you or pinning a nametag on you. You can come in and remain as anonymous as you'd like, or at the most, sign a "communication card" if you would like to receive a mailing with further information.

  1. Will I be expected to donate $money$ if I attend a service at First Christian?

You are welcome as our guest, and the worship service is our gift to you. We do not in any way expect you to give money to our church. Even after a person becomes a part of First Christian, all giving is a voluntary, confidential gift between them and the Lord.

  1. I have kids of all ages, an infant, an 8 year old, and a teenager.  What about my kids?

There is very safe and caring children's programming available during every worship service. Pre-school and Children's Bible School classes and Children's Worship services occur simultaneously with Adult worship services leading your children in worship and study on their level of understanding and meaning. The Middle School and High School youth share in their own teen worship service at 10:30. Bible Studies for both groups meet at 9:00.

  1. Do you have children’s programming during the week?

On Wednesday night our Children's program called "POINTBREAK" meets from 6:30 - 8:00 pm providing a time of worship singing, activity and Bible study/story time. Various Middle School and High School small groups meet on Tuesdays with big group worship time as well.

  1. Will my teens want to come back?

We are one of the only churches in the area providing a teen-led worship service in a separate worship center during the adult morning worship at 10:30. The music and drama touches teens right where they are, as well as the teen-focused messages taught by our Student Minister. Teens not only want to come back, but they also return with their friends, whom they were not embarrassed to invite to their own teen worship service.

  1. How do I get to the church?

We are located on the West side of Kenosha, Wisconsin, right on Hwy C (Wilmot Road) just across the West side of the Interstate. If coming from the North or South on Interstate I-94, take exit #345 (Highway C), then go west a ˝ mile. The church is on the right (North) side of the road. We are just 3-4 minutes north of the Illinois border, and only minutes from Kenosha proper. There's plenty of parking, so no need to worry.
